Junnikkala Oy was founded in 1960 in Kalajoki, and since then it has grown into a significant player in the wood processing industry. Today Junnikkala is a modern family business that delivers high-quality timber to domestic and international markets, investing in sustainable development and innovative solutions in the processing of wood products.
In 2023, the company's third sawmill was completed in Oulu. With this exceptional investment, whose total cost was around 80 million euros, a state-of-the-art sawmill rose in Oulu. With the Oulu sawmill up and running, the whole company produces a total of around 750,000 m³ of finished sawn timber annually.
Finnos has delivered all the scanners needed at the new Oulu sawmill: a Finnos Fusion X-ray scanner for log sorting, a Finnos 1D for log turning at the sawmill infeed, a Finnos Board Scanner for green sorting, and a Finnos Board Scanner and Finnos Moisture Meter-4 for dry sorting.
Antti Kyröläinen joined the Oulu project at a very early stage in 2022 and has been one of the key people driving the whole project to completion. Now that the project is complete, Antti has moved into the role of plant manager in Oulu, which includes responsibility for the operational activities of the entire sawmill.
Antti says that many factors supported choosing Finnos as the scanner supplier for the Oulu project. "In recent years Finnos has proven itself a solid player in Finland, especially on the X-ray side, and its skilled team was already familiar to us. Another significant factor was that from Finnos we could get a comprehensive range of scanners from a single supplier, which was cost-effective and also makes things easier going forward."
Antti particularly praises the smoothness of the deal-making and commissioning with Finnos. "Finnos has reacted to every problem promptly and effectively, and the installations were completed on schedule," Antti says. "We have been very satisfied with the quality of the scanners, and the accuracy has been at least at the level we imagined."
