Junnikkala Oy was founded in 1960 in Kalajoki, and since then it has grown into a significant player in the wood processing industry. Today, Junnikkala is a modern family business that supplies high-quality lumber to domestic and international markets, focusing on sustainable development and innovative solutions in wood product processing.
In 2023, the company’s third sawmill was completed in Oulu. This exceptional investment, with total costs of approximately 80 million euros, resulted in a state-of-the-art sawmill in Oulu. With the Oulu sawmill in operation, the entire company will produce a total of approximately 750,000 m³ of finished sawn timber annually.
Finnos has supplied the new sawmill in Oulu with all the necessary scanners: Finnos Fusion X-ray scanner for log sorting, Finnos 1D for log turning at the saw infeed, Finnos Board Scanner for green sorting, Finnos Board Scanner and Finnos Moisture Meter-4 for dry sorting.
Antti Kyröläinen joined the Oulu project very early on in 2022 and was one of the key individuals leading the entire project to completion. Now that the project is finished, Antti has moved into the role of Mill Manager in Oulu, which includes responsibility for the operational activities of the entire sawmill.
Antti says that many factors favored the selection of Finnos as the supplier of meters for the Oulu project. “Finnos has established itself as a strong player in Finland in recent years, especially in the X-ray sector, and their skilled team was already familiar to us. Another significant factor was that Finnos could provide a comprehensive range of meters from a single supplier, which was cost-effective and will also make things easier in the future.”
Antti particularly praises the smooth process of the transaction and implementation with Finnos. “All problems were responded to promptly and effectively by Finnos, and the installations were completed on schedule.”, Antti says. “We have been very satisfied with the quality of the meters, and their accuracy has been at least what we expected.”
